Combining the Microsoft Kinect with a Multi-Touch Tabletop System

In the context of our research work at the RheinMain University of Applied Sciences (see also slashslash.de), we combined two depth sensing cameras with a multi-touch tabletop system. In the video, we show our multi-touch tabletop system TwinTable that offers two separate interactive surfaces. Above it, we mounted two different depth-sensing cameras: a Microsoft Kinect and a PMD CamCube Time-of-Flight camera, which operate independently of each other. We illustrate the basic principles of our system, show how the illumination of the TwinTable and the depth-sensing cameras interfere with each other and present first interaction results.

For touch and tangible tracking, we use our tracking system Actracktive. For in-the-air interaction tracking we use our tracking system SPIRITED (which is due for publication).
